چکیده

This paper presents the application of coherent vortex simulation (CVS) filtering, based on an orthogonal wavelet decomposition of vorticity, to study mixing in 2D homogeneous isotropic turbulent flows. The Eulerian and Lagrangian dynamics of the flow are studied by comparing the evolution of a passive scalar and of particles advected by the coherent and incoherent velocity fields, respectively. The former is responsible for strong mixing and produces the same anomalous diffusion as the total flow, due to transport by the coherent vortices, while mixing in the latter is much weaker and corresponds to classical diffusion. 2003 Elsevier B.V. Wavelet Regularization of a Fourier-galerkin Method for Solving the 2d Incompressible Euler Equations

We employ a Fourier-Galerkin method to solve the 2D incompressible Euler equations, and study several ways to regularize the solution by wavelet filtering at each timestep. Real-valued orthogonal wavelets and complex-valued wavelets are considered, combined with either linear or nonlinear filtering. The results are compared with those obtained via classical viscous and hyperviscous regularizati...

Effects of extensional rates on characteristic scales of two-dimensional turbulence in polymer solutions

In order to study the effects of extensional viscosities on turbulent drag reduction, experimental studies using two-dimensional turbulence have been made. Anisotropic structures and variations of energy transfer induced by polymers are considered. Polyethyleneoxide and hydroxypropyl cellulose having different flexibility, which is due to different characteristics of extensional viscosity, are ...

Turbulent Decay and Mixing of Accelerated Inhomogeneous Flows Via a Feature Based Analysis

In this paper, we focus on the late time turbulence of an accelerated inhomogeneous flow environment, a generalization of Richtmyer-Meshkov environment. The numerical investigation is based on two-dimensional (2D) compressible Euler simulation, which is initiated by a shock wave hitting a gas layer (curtain). We observe excellent agreements with the previous decay analysis on 2D viscous isotrop...

Stochastic Coherent Adaptive Large-Eddy Simulation with explicit filtering

Stochastic Coherent Adaptive Large-Eddy Simulation is a novel approach to the numerical simulation of turbulence, based upon the wavelet thresholding filter, where the coherent energetic eddies are solved while modelling the influence of the less energetic background flow. In this study, in order to examine the quality and reliability of the method, additional explicit wavelet filtering is intr...
